Students who want to study English in the USA benefit from our advanced immersive Special Purpose Program and Pre-College Program which help international ESL students dramatically increase their English-language knowledge while educating them in professional- and academic-focused courses. Our Special Purpose Program course options effectively improve spoken and written fluency; critical thinking and analytical skills; grammatical accuracy; and, methods and strategies for dealing with new material and ideas.

These courses are open to students who have completed Level 6 or demonstrate a CEFR B2 proficiency level. Course offerings include Advanced Grammar, International Business English, Legal English, Media Fluency and Communication, Legal English, Newsroom and American  Literature.

Each eight-week course builds both fluency and accuracy through lesson tasks designed to replicate real-world situations and communicative needs in a variety of social, professional, and academic roles. To supplement the course SPP courses, a variety of extension modules exist for private and semi-private lessons which can be scheduled before, after, or in lieu of the group class. These extension modules are part of our Business English SPP course but present skills which are valuable in many aspects of independent life.

Pre-College Program

Students at CEFR B2 level and above continue to improve English-language proficiency and master academic skills in our Pre-College Program which is designed to prepare them for success in academic classes at university level. Taught by experienced teachers who are familiar with the culture of institutions of higher learning in the United States and other English-speaking countries, students practice increasing their grammar and vocabulary resources while simultaneously applying their knowledge of English to university-level content.

inlingua® Washington DC’s classes use the communicative method, blended learning through technology, and an English-only classroom to maximize student interaction and use of English. Our Pre-College curriculum emphasizes development of both listening and speaking as well as reading and writing skills in conjunction with traditional grammar, spelling, and vocabulary development. These upper-level English for Academic Purposes courses help students develop critical thinking and 21st century skills such as collaborative problem-solving, analysis and synthesis of information, and advanced research techniques through production-based activities.
